West Nusa Tenggara focuses on sustainable and wellness tourism to attract direct international flights

Tourism stakeholders in West Nusa Tenggara NTB, encompassing Lombok and Sumbawa, are developing quality, sustainable, and wellness-focused experiences to boost demand and encourage direct international flights. While fast boats connect Bali with Lombok and the Gilis Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, Gili Meno, direct air access to the province remains a challenge. Ahmad Nur Aulia, head of the NTB Regional Tourism Office, highlighted priorities including enhancing visitor experience, fostering community inclusivity, and ensuring social, environmental, and cultural sustainability. Development efforts are concentrated on hubs like the Gilis, Senggigi, Mataram, Mandalika, and Sembalun. Sahlan Saleh, chairman of the NTB Regional Tourism Promotion Board, noted the growth of premium properties in Lombok and the push for environmental and sustainable tourism concepts. Private operators like Selong Selo Resort & Villas and Innit Lombok are implementing eco-friendly practices and community support initiatives. Wellness tourism is also a growing area, with resorts like Qunci Villas in Senggigi introducing unique healing rituals and Royal Avila Boutique Resort seeing increased interest in long-stay wellness retreats. The Gilis have distinct market identities: Gili Trawangan for nightlife, Gili Air for families, and Gili Meno for honeymooners and divers.
