Tabanan's iconic Catur Muka statue undergoes revitalization

The iconic Catur Muka Statue on Jalan Gadjah Mada Street in Tabanan was demolished on Sunday, July 12, 2026, for relocation and revitalization. The demolition occurred on a Sunday to minimize traffic disruption, and the area was fenced off. The Head of Tabanan City’s Traditional Village organization, I Made Suwardika, stated the renovation aims to enhance Tabanan City’s aesthetics as part of a larger urban renovation of Gadjah Mada Street. The plan, approved by Tabanan’s Regent, I Komang Gede Sanjaya, and the Regency’s Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, involves installing a larger Brahma statue that is more proportionally appropriate for the upgraded downtown area. The original statue, erected in the 1980s, became disproportionate as the surrounding buildings grew taller. The new Catur Muka statue will be approximately three meters wide and six meters high, designed to be taller and more harmonious with its surroundings.
