Seminyak restaurant fire under investigation, second major fire reported in Kuta

A fire at Chez Gado Gado restaurant on Jalan Camplung Tanduk in Seminyak on August 30, 2026, required 10 fire trucks and over two hours to extinguish. The Badung Fire and Rescue Service used an estimated 115,000 liters of water. The restaurant building, approximately 45 meters by 40 meters, was completely destroyed, with material losses temporarily estimated at IDR 4 billion. An office building on the south side was saved, with assets valued around Rp 700 million. No casualties were reported. The Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, stated that initial reports suggest the fire started from a helium balloon hit by a candle flame, causing it to explode and ignite the thatched roof. Initial extinguishing efforts by staff were unsuccessful. The Head of Seminyak Village, I Putu Gede Adhi Karmita Putra, urged businesses to be vigilant during the dry season, especially those using flammable materials or candles, and to check electrical installations. A second major fire occurred on Jalan Sunset in Kuta in the early hours of September 1, 2026, with no statement yet on its cause.
